Why use a 1/2" shank for a tiny 4mm cutting diameter?
A 1/2" shank provides massive rigidity compared to a 1/4" shank. When cutting narrow 4mm grooves, the thicker shank severely reduces chatter and bit deflection, resulting in a cleaner cut and preventing the thin cutting tip from snapping under load.
Is this bit suitable for deep mortising?
Yes, with a 20mm cutting length, it is excellent for narrow and deep mortises. However, because the 4mm tip is delicate, you must take multiple shallow passes rather than attempting to cut the full 20mm depth in one go.
Will this bit fit in a compact trim router?
No, this bit requires a 1/2" collet, which is typically only found on full-size routers and CNC spindles. It will not fit standard 1/4" trim routers.
